Bins update from East Suffolk Council

While the roll-out of the Better Recycling scheme has been effective in most areas, we continue to work with East Suffolk Services (ESSL) to resolve some continuing issues, to bring it up to the standard that councillors and residents rightly expect.

These include challenges relating to the delivery of the new food waste service, in particular, mechanical issues with the new food waste collection vehicles, adaptation to entirely new rounds, and the knock-on effect of these onto other waste collection areas.

In addition, the recent hot weather has impacted the completion of rounds.

We are sorry if you have been affected and we are working hard to resolve these problems.

We know this is frustrating for residents; however, we are investing time and resources in getting this right.

If residents have missed a collection, they are advised to report it through customer services or the council app, which also releases notifications relevant to your area. In the meantime, this is the current advice on missed collections:

Residual/ black bins: Please leave your bin out, and crews will aim to collect it within the next 2-3 days

Mixed recycling: Please leave your bin out, and crews will aim to collect it within 2-3 days

Garden waste: Crews will aim to complete within three days – but if the bin is not collected by the following Monday, we will extend the subscription to cover the missed round.

Food waste: Please take your bin back to its storage place, and re-present it on the next scheduled collection day, with the handle up. If the large caddy becomes full during this period, excess food waste can be put in the general waste bin.

Paper and card: Please take your bin back to its storage place, and re-present it on the next scheduled collection day.
