NATIONAL GRID’S SEALINK
DEVELOPMENT CONSENT ORDER - DCO
Have YOUR say!

Sea Link is a National Grid transmission project that proposes construction of a 26m high, 16acre Converter Station right beside Saxmundham and Sternfield that will be connected by a motorway-width cable trench to a 10acre Connection Hub at Friston and a landfall site at Aldeburgh. This will then be joined up via a 137km undersea transmission cable to another Converter Station due to be built in Kent.

The period for Registering as an Interested Party for the Sea Link DCO examination and to be able to submit your comments and concerns (known as a “relevant representation”) has just opened (8 May) and will close at midnight on 23 June 2025.

THE DCO IS YOUR CHANCE TO GET YOUR VOICES HEARD BY LETTING THE EXAMINERS KNOW ANY OF THE CONCERNS YOU HAVE WITH THE PROJECT

Before Registering, we suggest you prepare your comments on a word document as they will need to be submitted at the same time as Registration and a pre- prepared document will then allow you to copy and paste onto the online submission form.

Your comments should focus on the main issues of concern to you, but areas you may wish to include might be the adverse impact of such large buildings being so close to local people or concerns you may have about the cumulative impacts of so many energy projects being built all at the same time in East Suffolk or the effects of construction on local traffic, local businesses and the environment. Try to use your own words because if the Examiners receive “repeated” representations with the same wording they will not be included in the evidence and your submission will be wasted.

To Register please go to the Planning Inspectorate's website. Click on the Register to have you say link at the top of the page, then click on Start now.

You will need to provide your full name, address, email address and telephone number. Your name and your remarks will appear on the Project Information page on the Planning Inspectorate website, but your address, email and telephone number will remain private. When you have completed the Registration, you will be given a unique reference number - this is your Interested Person number.

After the Registration period closes on 23 June you will be able to see all the relevant representations that have been submitted.

Once the Examination Period commences (in approximately three months’ time), as a Registered Interested Party, you will be able to submit more information using another online submission form and can even speak at some of the hearings, if you so wish.
